Q+A with tyDi // music and influences

We sat down with tyDi to talk about music and influence from an artist POV. tyDi one half of the collab that created the hit electronic single “Just Believe,” with the music video featuring Vinylly. tyDi is a conservatory trained composer, songwriter, music producer, engineer, world traveller, and 3x Top 100 World DJ.

Q: What’s your first memory of music as a child?

A: Probably listening to ‘Blink 182’ in high school; it inspired me to be a drummer. From there I illegally downloaded ‘Sandstorm’ by Darude… Thankfully he’s chill about that and I bought him a beer to make up for it.

Q: Did you always want to make music, or was there something else you were interested in for your career?

A: I can’t see myself doing anything else but music.

Q: When did you know music was your passion? Why is it your passion?

A: When it was all that I cared about, I literally didn’t stop. I had no social life, just focused and wrote songs.. I think a passion is when ‘work’ doesn’t feel like ‘work’. Nothing has changed about that. I just love making people happy through music!

Q: Who is your favorite artist/band and why?

A: Probably Blink 182 because they had such a huge impact on my childhood.

Q: What kind of musical influences does your music have?

A: Too many to name, I’m inspired by so many bands and electronic acts. I even listen to classical music… So it’s just so hard to put a name to anyone without writing for days. What I can say is that I’m lucky to have met and worked with so many of my inspirations!

Q: How did you come up with your stage name tyDi?

A: It was actually a typo in a DJ competition! I won the award and stuck with it 🙂

Q: What’s one thing you’d like for your fans to know about you?

A: That I truly care, my music is very honest and always has been. I’m a songwriter first and foremost.

Q: What’s next for you and your music?

A: You’ll have to wait and see 😉 But I’ll use one word… ‘Feelings’.
